Many people feel intimidated when it comes to baking, cooking, and other types of food preparation. This is most likely due to the fact that our lives and careers, along with keeping up with all of our kids’ activities, have left us less time to spend in the kitchen than our parents and grandparents.
However, there is no reason for you to feel this way. And with a little bit of help from your personal pastry chefs here at Sweet Melissa Patisserie, we can show you how to make a delicious pastry cream with a quick, simple tutorial. Here are the ingredients you will need:
- Egg Yolks
- Whole Milk
Fill a large bowl up with ice water. After that, place a fine-mesh sieve over a medium-sized bowl. Set them both off to the side.
In a 3 to 4 quart saucepan, whisk the dry ingredients together with a whisk (sugar, salt, cornstarch)
Add the egg yolks and whisk them until they have been thoroughly mixed with all of the dry ingredients.
Now that you’ve mixed up all the ingredients, it’s time to prepare the pastry cream:
- Add milk
- Heat to thicken
- Look for bubbles (once they appear, whisk continuously for one minute, then remove from heat)
- Add butter and vanilla
- Run through sieve
- Chill in an ice bath (30 minutes)
- Refrigerate (at least 4 hours)
