Sweet Melissa Patisserie was voted the Best Bakery in New Jersey, so it is safe to say we know a thing or two about baking! With summer just around the corner, kids will be having more free time that needs to be filled with fun and wholesome activities. Baking is the perfect activity to do with kids of all ages. Not only is baking fun and delicious, it also helps boost kids’ confidence and teaches them useful life skills. Here are five baking activities you can do with your kids:
Decorate Cookies
You do not have to wait until the holidays to bring out the cookie cutters. Decorating cookies is a lovely pastime to spend with your kids in the kitchen. Have fun with colorful icing and yummy decorations, and your kids will be smiling from ear to ear. Sugar cookies are perfect for cutting into shapes, and so are gingerbread and snickerdoodles.
Make Cereal Bars
Kids love cereal, and they love cereal bars even more! And while marshmallow treats made with rice cereal are the most common choice, using other cereals like puffed oats, corn or bran flakes, and sugary O’s are also fantastic options. Mix up a few cereals in the same recipe for extra kidlike fun!
Kids Love Cupcakes
Kids and cupcakes go together like peanut butter and jelly. To give your little ones a special treat, invite them to help you whip up a batch of their favorite cupcakes. Bring out the food coloring to dye the icing different colors, and your kids will be thoroughly entertained while practicing their cake decorating skills. And for an extra sweet surprise, drop candies like peanut butter cups in the center of the cupcakes!
Fun with Fondant
Fondant is another fun way to get the kids involved in baking. Food coloring is also handy for fondant, and the possibilities of what you can make are only limited by your and your kids’ imaginations. Finally, food your kids are allowed to play with!
Pizza Night
Everyone loves pizza, and kids especially love personal pizzas. Making their own pizza that they get to pick the toppings for makes them feel special and important, like one of the adults. To boost their confidence even more, ask the little ones to help you roll out the pizza dough.
